As we head toward spring with no more snow in sight 🤞, we can look back fondly on Snowpocalypse 2019. 🌨️ Last year this sweet couple was stuck in their home for days . . . until one of our crew came by and plowed the road outside of their home, not because we needed to collect their trash or recycling, but simply to do a good deed. 💙 #FeelGoodFriday

Recology Western Oregon (RWO) and Astoria Visual Arts (AVA) are pleased to continue to offer the Coastal Oregon Artist Residency (COAR) Program. RWO and AVA aim to support the creation of art from recycled, repurposed and discarded materials recovered from the Recology Astoria Recycling Depot and Transfer Station. The five-month residency begins in May and provides two selected artists with access to discarded materials, a montly stipend of $1,000, studio space at RWO’s Warrenton-based facility and, at the close of the residency, a public exhibition in downtown Astoria. By supporting artists who work with recycled materials, RWO and AVA hope to encourage the public to conserve natural resources and promote new ways of thinking about art and the environment. Applications are now being accepted for the 2020 program. Submission deadline: March 31! Find out more at: recology.com/recology-western-oregon/clatsop/my-community/

I just wanted to express appreciation to the personnel at Recology for their help this last week. Even with all the extra calls due to their closed office, they took the time to set up service for my 90 year old mother. They were even willing to come down her narrow lane to pick up her container. Well done! Thank you for your excellent service!

Reminder: Plastic bags and plastic wrap (like shopping bags, sandwich bags and the wrap around paper towels) do not belong in your recycling cart. By leaving them out, you keep them from getting tangled in machinery at recycling facilities and help ensure more items can be recycled. 🤷 So what should you do with them instead? ➡️ Take clean and dry plastic bags and plastic wrap back to stores to be recycled. Go to plasticfilmrecycling.org to find a drop-off location near you. (And please call ahead to make sure the drop-off location is still participating in the program.) ➡️ Use reusable bags and reuse the plastic bags you have for things like lining trash cans or picking up pet waste.
