Welcome to January’s edition of the EuroHPC JU News Digest, where we review the latest in European HPC developments, projects, and supercomputer news.  

Please allow me to wish you a happy and healthy new year 2023. We are happy to be back after a restful end of year break and ready to get started on a packed calendar for 2023. A month in and so far, we have certainly not been bored! 

Without delay, the EuroHPC is looking to the future, with the launch of the call for tender to select a vendor for the procurement of JUPITER, which will be the first exascale supercomputer to come to Europe and will be hosted on the Forschungszentrum Jülich campus in Germany. 
 
In preparation for JUPITER and the arrival of the exascale era in Europe, the EuroHPC JU launched 10 Centres of Excellence for HPC this month. The Centres of Excellence will gather European expertise by sector, and also develop and redesign applications for use in exascale supercomputing.  

We have also just launched three new EuroHPC calls. Two are training initiatives: One to develop a EuroHPC training platform and support the EuroHPC Summer School, and the other for EuroHPC Professional Traineeships, to ensure that the upcoming generation of European HPC users and experts are well-supported academically and professionally. The third is a call for the development of the first coordinated European RISC-V initiative.
 
Finally, this month we launched the website and opened registrations for the EuroHPC Summit 2023! I invite you to discover the programme and register as of now. I am looking forward to seeing many of our community in Gothenburg for some inspiring and motivating discussions.
