证券时报网 reported that Rio Tinto Australia CEO Carrie Bennett revealed in an interview with Jiemian News and other media that Rio Tinto's total purchases of goods and services in China will reach US$4.2 billion (about RMB 30.4 billion) in 2024. This figure is about 23% higher than the purchase amount of about US$3.4 billion (about RMB 24.6 billion) in 2023, setting a record high. Peng Kaili said that the growth in figures shows that Chinese companies and suppliers can play a role in Rio Tinto's wider operations. A significant portion of these purchases supports the Simandou iron ore project in Guinea, involving Chinese companies like China Baowu and China Railway. Rio Tinto is also exploring cooperation with Chinese firms in energy storage for carbon reduction and decarbonizing the steel industry.
